ABBOTTABAD: Election for the office of the vice-president of the Cantonment Board Abbottabad has been rescheduled for Tuesday (Feb 1).

This was disclosed by board’s chief executive officer Ms Ammara, while talking to Dawn here on Saturday.

She said some members had moved the election tribunal challenging the election of two members elected on special seats, and had obtained a stay. However, the election tribunal had disposed of the case by upholding the election of the two members, she said, adding after the decision, the election for the office of board’s vice-president was scheduled for Jan 28. However, due to verification and notification of members on the special seats, it was rescheduled for Feb 1, she mainained.

Ms Ammara said the election would be held through secret balloting by 12 civilian members of the board.

The cantonment board has 12 elected civilian members and as many unelected official members, she added.

The local body elections in the cantonment board were held on Sept 12, last year. Ruling PTI had won four seats, PML-N three while PPP could bag only one seat. Two members were elected as independents.

Later, two members were notified on special seats, one for monitory and the other for peasant worker seats.

COVID RESTRICTIONS: The district administration on Saturday banned indoor wedding and other functions across the district owing to spike in coronavirus cases.

According to a press release issued from the office of deputy commissioner, the restriction would remain enforced till Feb 15. However, outdoor dining and functions would be allowed for 300 vaccinated persons.

Only 70% vaccinated passengers would be allowed in public transport vehicles, while cinemas and shrines would have 50% presence of vaccinated visitors. Games like karate, martial arts, kabaddi, wrestling and polo have also been banned.
