PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has expressed dissatisfaction with traffic management here, especially on University Road, and directed the senior superintendent of police (traffic) to take immediate steps for the smooth flow of traffic on all major roads in the capital city.

He issued directives during a surprise visit to different areas of the capital city without security protocol to review the overall situation of traffic management and sanitation, according to a statement issued here on Friday.

The chief minister visited the GT Road, University Road, Hayatabad, Ring Road and other areas. He took notice of the absence of traffic police personnel on a section of Ring Road and sought a report about it from the SSP (traffic).

Mr Mahmood expressed displeasure over the dilapidated medians,faulty traffic lights and lack of sanitation on the eastern section of the Ring Road.

He directed the Peshawar Development Authority and Water Supply and Sanitation Company to immediately take corrective measures and submit a report about it to him.

The chief minister also examined work on the Ring RoadHazar Khwani Public Park and directed the relevant authorities to expedite civil work on the project and ensure the opening of the facility to public within the stipulated time.

He said it was his government’s top priority to revive the beauty of Peshawar city and therefore, serious steps were being taken for the purpose. The chief minister further said the authorities, in order to resolve traffic issues in the capital city on a permanent basis, were taking concrete measures under long-term and short-term plans.

He said he was supervising development matters of Peshawar city and would continue carrying out surprise visits to ensure smooth, quality work.
