LAHORE: Six people of two families, including three children, died while three other people were injured when a passenger van plunged into a drain shortly after it collided with a tractor-trolley in the Kahna area here on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Rukhsana (45), Naeema (40), Ali Hassan (11), Zain (10), Faizan (8) and Safian (6), all of Chungi Amar Sidhu.

The injured were shifted to the Lahore General Hospital on the ambulances of Rescue 1122.

A police official said some families on the van were returning from a wedding ceremony.

He said the driver of the tractor-trolley fled the scene abandoning the vehicle at the scene. The police seized it.

He said initial reports suggested that the driver was ‘rashly driving’ the van.

He said as the van driver lost control of the wheel, which caused the accident.

Rescue 1122 and the local residents jointly launched an operation to rescue the injured passengers.
