KARACHI: The city received light to moderate rain with strong winds that continued throughout the evening in different parts of the metropolis on Tuesday.

The Met office predicted the trend would likely to continue till Jan 7.

Since early in the morning, the city remained under thick and dark clouds which burst in the second half of the day with drizzle. By the sunset, the metropolis started receiving light and moderate showers that continued for the rest of the day.

The maximum rainfall of two millimetres was recorded at the PAF Base Faisal. In other observatories, the Met office mostly recorded traces ranging from 0.6mm to 1.8mm.

Though the rain count shared by the Met office was not significant, the drizzling and moderate shower led to the collapse of the traffic system causing hour-long traffic jams on almost all key roads.

The intermittent downpour continued to test the patience of Karachiites and it damaged the city’s ill-maintained traffic, electricity and sewerage systems. A brief message from the KE said that teams were actively fixing the rain-related issues in different areas to restore the supply at the earliest.

The Met department, meanwhile, forecast cloudy with intermittent rain-thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls in the city today under the influence of a westerly wave that will persist till Jan 7. The maximum and minimum temperature is likely to range between 13 degrees Celsius and 21°C, it said.

“Widespread rain-thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are likely to occur in Dadu, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Larkana , Qambar Shahdadkot, Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur , Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allayar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot & TharParker districts till 7th Jan,” the Met department advisory said.
