KARACHI: A micro-smart lockdown was imposed on Friday in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 7, after 12 members of a family tested positive for Omicron variant of coronavirus.

The step was taken by the deputy commissioner-East on Friday on the recommendation of the district health officer.

According to a notification, the lockdown will be imposed in the streets and houses of the specified area and will remain effective till Jan 14.

“The health department has initiated contact tracing after collecting data of all family members, who have been quarantined in their house,” said an official.

Fewer than 100 cases of the new variant cases have been reported in the country so far.
