PESHAWAR: Four people were injured when their armed men opened firing on them outside Peshawar Central Prison on Tuesday evening, police said.

An official of East Cantonment police station told Dawn that the firing took place at the gate of central jail, when a member of the attacked party was being released from the prison.

Police said that Ibrahim, Faqeer Mohammad, Mohammad Tawab and Munir Hussain were injured in the attack. Police registered FIR on a complaint lodged by Ibrahim. They said that Ibrahim’s son was behind bars and was being released from prison on Tuesday, when their opponents opened firing on them outside the jail gate.

The official said that Ibrahim nominated Abu Bakar, Wakil and an unidentified person in the FIR. He said that some of the injured were passersby.

The attackers managed to escape from the scene after targeting their rivals.
