LAHORE: Dengue claimed the lives of six more patients during the last 24 hours in Punjab, taking the total number to 75.

Of them, five deaths were reported from the provincial capital Lahore.

According to the official update released here on Tuesday, the total number of the patients reached 19,021 after 456 more people tested positive for dengue in Punjab.

Out of these new cases, Lahore reported 333, Rawalpindi 37 and Gujranwala 16. Other cases were reported from Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Kasur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Attock, Bahawalpur and Chakwal.

The data suggested that the total number of positive cases has reached 14,145 in the provincial capital.

A spokesperson for the health department said the 2,196 dengue patients were under treatment in all public sector hospitals of Punjab.

He said the provincial government had allocated 5,517 beds in government hospitals for dengue fever management and most of them were vacant.
