SUKKUR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a suspected terrorist of Islamic State (IS) group who confessed to his involvement in numerous subversive acts in Afghanistan.

The CTD spokesman said that the law-enforcers raided a place in Bagirji town in Sukkur district after receiving a tip-off about the presence of the terrorist identified as Waqar Ahmed Pathan, who was wanted by law enforcement agencies in several cases of terrorist acts carried out in Afghanistan at the behest of Islamic State commanders.

He said that the raiding team found detonators, ball-bearings, explosives and other proscribed material in the possession of the terrorist, who received training in Paktika, Afghanistan, in the use of sophisticated weapons and preparation of suicide jackets for targeted attacks.

“The terrorist is alleged to have done a heavy damage to Nato forces in Afghanistan as he had been part of many deadly terrorist attacks,” said the spokesman.
