PESHAWAR: A Charsadda police official was martyred when unidentified assailants opened fire on him on the outskirts of the provincial capital here on Monday.

The incident took place near Charpariza Chowk in the limits of Mathra police station. The victim was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Imtiaz Khan.

The police said the deceased was posted at Srokallay police station and had come to the provincial capital to attend hearing in a missing person case before the Peshawar High Court. A senior police official told Dawn that they were investigating the incident from various angles.
