TELEVISION LICENCE

TELEVISION LICENCE: A federal minister recently said the PTV had made a net profit of Rs1.3bn during the last fiscal, and that bigger gains were expected in the coming years. As the corporation has grown up enough to be a profit-making entity, it would be appropriate that the television licence fee being charged on all electricity consumers should be stopped forthwith.

A number of households do not possess a TV set and a large majority of the rest does not care to watch PTV.

HONOURING A.Q. KHAN: Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan is a national hero. His life-long contributions, sacrifices and commitments towards making the country the strongest fortress in the Muslim world have ensured that we as a nation can hold our heads high. Pakistan should rename one of the major airports in the country, such as Islamabad International Airport, as the A.Q. Khan International Airport to acknowledge his services.

PAINT PRICES: I purchased one-gallon paint tin of a top-class brand recently from a shop in Chaklala Scheme III for Rs4,100, whereas the price on the tin read Rs2,750 which was nothing but an indicator of how old that tin was. I bought another tin from the next shop for Rs3,450, but the tin carried no price information. The paint manufacturers should mention the date of manufacturing, the expiry date and the price on the tins as the quality deteriorates with time.

B.R.T. WOES: The Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) service in Peshawar is a wonderful service, but there are some issues that may mar its image. There is no proper partition between male and female sections, which is not fair. Another problem is that the service does not include populated areas surrounding the Canal Road. Such issues need to be sorted out without delay.
