HYDERABAD, Nov 10: Distr-ict Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has banned trading and use of polyethylene bags from January 1, 2006 in the district and asked traders and consumers to arrange alternative source within two months.

The decision was taken at a meeting about cleanliness drive here on Monday evening.

The nazim said that use of polyethylene bags without its proper disposal had not only created health hazards for people but also chocked sewerage and drain lines resulting in overflow of filthy water on roads and streets.

He said the carelessness had also posed threat to newly constructed roads and other infrastructure.

He said that in order to ensure sustainability in the development works and cleanliness smooth flow of sewerage was essential in the city as such the people should not only avoid the use of polyethylene bags but also discourage its marketing in the district. He said the step had been taken in the interest of the people who were supposed to extend support in the cleanliness drive and make it a grand success.
