KARACHI: Two-goal Mohammad Sufyan steered host Navy to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Punjab in the third CNS All-Pakistan Hockey Tournament which commenced here at the Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Sufyan struck the goals in the first and second quarter by converting penalty corners to give his side a solid 2-0 advantage at half time. Forward Mohsin Sabir scored in the 49th minute to complete the tally.

Navy, who dominated the play throughout the match, could have won by a better margin had Amir Sultan not missed a penalty stroke in the 59th minute.

Punjab, on the other hand, made some counter moves and forced five penalty corners during the play but all went in vain.

Two Punjab players — Bilal Aslam and Hassan — were shown yellow cards in 45th and 53rd minutes, respectively. Earlier they were shown green cards besides Babar Ali.

Sufyan and Essa Khan of Navy were also shown green cards.

Sufyan was declared man-of-the-match on his outstanding performance and was awarded prize by PHF secretary Asif Bajwa.

Earlier, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail who graced the opening match declared the tournament open.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

PQA vs PAF at 10am; NBP vs Army at 1.30pm; Wapda vs MPCL at 4pm.
