KOHAT: Deputy commissioner Roshan Mehsud imposed Section 144 on Monday, banning pillion riding and display of weapons after the murder of a policeman on security duty with a polio team the other day.

A notification issued here said that in the wake of the prevalent security situation, the maintenance of law and order was the foremost priority, thus necessitating the taking of special measures to ensure peace and tranquility to prevent any loss to the life and property of public.

Therefore, pillion-riding and display of weapons was prohibited from Sept 20 for three days in limits of the district and the order was punishable under section 188 of PPC.

Meanwhile, the army has also been called in for protection of polio staff, district police officer Sohail Khalid said.

He said from now on two policemen would accompany a polio team, who would report to the central command centre about the ongoing situation in their respective areas.

He added that commandos with armored vehicles fitted with machine guns had been deployed at all the important highways and squares.
