LAHORE: The federal cabinet which is scheduled to meet in Islamabad on Tuesday (today) is likely to approve replacement of the Punjab chief secretary and the IGP.

According to official sources, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has recommended three names each for the new chief secretary and the IGP to Prime Minister Imran Khan for selecting any of them.

For chief secretary, the CM has reportedly recommended the names of Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera, Dr Kamran Ali Afzal and Babar Hayat Tarrar and for IGP his picks are Rao Sardar Ali Khan, Zafar Iqbal and Mohsin Butt.

Sources said Dr Kamarn Ali Afzal and Rao Sardar Ali Khan are likely to get PM’s nod for the top positions.

If selected, Mr Afzal will be the fifth Punjab chief secretary while Mr Khan will be the seventh IGP during the three-year PTI rule.

Mr Afzal belongs to the 21st Common of the District Management Group while Mr Khan belongs to 18th Common and presently serving as managing director of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).

Rao Sardar Ali Khan has a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, and LLM from the London School of Economics. He has also served as Balochistan police DIG Headquarters and Punjab police as Khanewal DPO.
