Lahorites celebrate the Independence Day with enthusiasm. — White Star / Murtaza Ali

LAHORE: Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at various state institutions on the Independence Day on Saturday.

A ceremony was held at the Lahore High Court where Justice Shujaat Ali Khan hoisted the national flag.

Other judges, including Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Shahid Jamil Khan, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, Justice Jawad Hassan and Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry were also present.

A contingent of police band presented the guard of honour to the judges.

On the occasion, Justice Khan said this homeland was achieved as a result of tireless efforts and great sacrifices of our forefathers. “We are proud to be associated with a sacred profession like the law,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Bar Council also held a flag-hoisting ceremony, which was attended by a large number of lawyers.

LGH: At a ceremony organised at the Lahore General Hospital and the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences in connection

with the Independence Day, LGH Principal Prof Dr Sardar Muhammad Al-freed Zafar and PINS Executive Director Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood hoisted the national flag.

On the occasion, nursing students and nurses sang the national anthem.

Addressing the function, Prof Zafar and Prof Dr Mahmood asked the doctors and nurses to continue work with devotion and dedication in the medical field.

Col Syed Jafar Abbas, the father of martyred Lt Syed Yasir Abbas Rizvi (Pakistan Navy), Mehran Base, Karachi, was the special guest at the ceremony.

TRADE UNIONS: Trade union representatives and workers held a meeting under the aegis of the All Pakistan Workers Confederation at the Bakhtiar Labour Hall to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the nation.

The meeting was addressed by Secretary General Khurshid Ahmad, Akbar Ali khan, Khushi Muhammad Khokhar, Osama Tariq, Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar, Niaz Khan, Nosher Khan, Fiaz, Salahuddin Ayubi and others.
