ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have accelerated their crackdown against vehicles that have tinted glasses and fancy number plates as well as against those hampering the smooth flow of traffic due to wrong parking.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Syed Karar Hussain constituted special squads to check traffic rules violations.

A total of 19 grand operations were conducted in the last month in various areas including G-8 Markaz, G-9 Markaz, G-11 Markaz, F-10 Markaz, F-11 Markaz, I-8 Markaz, Bahria Town, Blue Area, Jinnah Super, F-6 (Super Market), Aabpara and Bhara Kahu market.

During the operations, owners of car showrooms were strictly warned to avoid parking on footpaths and roads. A total of 329 tickets were issued over wrong parking while 25 vehicles were impounded in various police stations.

As many as 763 vehicles were fined for having tinted glasses, 894 for having fancy number plates and 821 for violations of miscellaneous nature.

The SSP has appealed to citizens to avoid using tinted glasses and follow traffic rules to ensure safe road environment in the city.

He has also ordered to check every violation and issue ticket to the violator.

“Elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are our main objectives which will be achieved at every cost,” he said.

Meanwhile Superintendent of Police (Operations) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer has claimed that Islamabad police have recovered a cache of narcotics during a grand targeted search and combing operation in Dore Village in the suburbs of the capital city, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

A total of 100 houses were screened and six peddlers with previous criminal history were arrested besides 5.6kg of heroin and 2kg of hashish was recovered.

Nadra motorcycle stolen

A motorcycle, owned by National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), was stolen from the jurisdiction of Ramna police station.

A complainant, Saud Shoaib, informed the police that unknown persons stolen the government-owned 125 motorbike, bearing number plate GAP-573, from outside Nadra building in G-10/4.

Police have registered a first information report and are trying to trace the stolen vehicle.
