RAWALPINDI: Pakistan may have to take a tough line if the sinister move of the Indians to raise issues, relating purely to internal affairs of Pakistan, at the next meeting of the Security Council is allowed to get in — even if it is through the back door. According to diplomatic indications … the move, couched in vague terms, is already afloat in UN circles — with a couple of Security Council members acting to introduce it in the name of “threat to peace in the region”. — Newspaper’s staff correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by the newspaper’s overseas correspondent in London,] The United States Government is expected to soften or even withdraw its opposition to China’s membership of the United Nations under the China policy now in preparation in Washington following the announcement of President Nixon’s forthcoming visit to Peking.

According to reports … the US Government is preparing itself for entry of the People’s Republic of China into the UN Security Council as one of its permanent members and for exclusion of Taiwan from the United Nations, for neither Peking nor Taipei would accept the American “two Chinas” policy. The US Government is considering withdrawal of American troops … from Taiwan… .
