LAHORE: A card of six events, featuring two cup races, marks the sixth running of the day/night Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The feature event, the Monsoon Cup Class VII Division I (Class VI included) to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres has nine runners. The handicapper to make it a contesting event has tried to equalize chances of all runners in the handicap which is the beauty of this race.
In particular the quartet of runners —, Drums Of War, Amazing Runner, Believe Me and Noor-e-Kainat. They should fight it out for top slot.
The July Cup, a class VII Division V handicap race to be gone over 900 metres has nine runners. It looks an open affair. Four races will be contested over 900 metres while two over 1,000 metres.
The first race will be held at 5.00pm.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have suspended riding boy Mazhar Ali for 15 days in an action for indiscipline of not following the instructions of the club’s officials in the fourth race last Sunday.
Over four weeks ago the stewards had sent off the track three riders — Tahir Abbas, Dinar Mirwani and S. Moeen for being rowdy in the club premises for 15 days each. Race goers while appreciating the stewards’ action, though very mild to set in order ethical trends and moral codes for professionals while at work.
