KOHAT: Food department officials sent nine shopkeepers to prison and fined dozens of others for selling expired items and profiteering during raids in Lachi tehsil and Tough Bala bazaars here on Tuesday.

District food controller Arshad Khan and assistant food officer Wajid Ali inspected various food outlets in Lachi Bazaar, and ordered arrest of nine shopkeepers for keeping expired beverages, lack of hygiene and violating the price list.

In Tough Bala, the food department officials fined a number of nanbais for selling bread with less weight and shopkeepers for not displaying price list at their outlets.

GATE INSTALLATION: The longstanding issue of installation of a gate on the railway crossing at the entrance to the Tableeghi Markaz, Kohat, was resolved with the mutual consent of the Markaz’s Shura and Pakistan Railways officials on Tuesday.

Chairman district development advisory committee MPA Ziaullah Bangash, head of the Shura committee Pir Azam Shah and elders met at the Markaz.

MPA Bangash and railways officials assured that no hurdle would be caused to the visitors as the gate would remain open for most of the time. They also stressed that the gate was essential for the safety of people visiting the Tableeghi Markaz.

Also in the day, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Safe City Project in Hangu, Kohat division commissioner Javed Marwat said the project would help maintain security during the upcoming month of Muharram in the most sensitive district.
