THE construction and repair of roads and bridges in Peshawar is laudable, but the slow pace of development on the ground is creating problems for the residents. The road from Phandu Payan which connects with Chamkani as well as with the Grand Trunk Road, had an old bridge which was demolished for reconstruction. However, five months have passed, but the development work is nowhere near completion.

In the absence of the aforementioned bridge, the residents of the area are compelled to take a route which is six kilometres longer just to get onto the GT Road. It is worth mentioning that Phandu has the biggest vegetable market in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy traffic from the market causes traffic jams on the alternative route, and the residents remain stuck there for hours.

The relevant authorities need to speed up the construction process and open the bridge for public as soon as possible.
