HARIPUR: Three passengers, including a woman, were killed and seven others injured when a rickshaw skidded off the road and overturned after one of its tyres burst here on Wednesday.

The police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a three-wheeler carrying 10 passengers of a family was on way to Jhari Kass village from Harpur side when it met the accident, killing three persons on the spot and injuring seven others, including four women.

The locals shifted the dead and the injured to Haripur Trauma Centre. The deceased were identified as Zaitoon Bibi, her husband Habibur Rehman and Sohbat Khan.

In a separate development, the police on Wednesday arrested a shopkeeper for assaulting a minor boy.

The city police officials said the victim, 11, used to sell face masks outside a grocery shop on the GT Road. The shop owner, Malik Waleed, coaxed him into getting inside the shop’s godown, where he assaulted him. Someone captured the offense on mobile phone and shared it with district police officer Kashif Zulfiqar, who ordered an inquiry and the video clip was found genuine.

The SHO city arrested the accused after registering a criminal case against him. He was produced before the judicial magistrate who sent him to jail.
