LAHORE: A man allegedly shot his former wife dead and buried her body in his house’s courtyard in Harbanspura on Tuesday.

The crime was detected when suspect Yousaf Butt’s children called on 15 helpline and the police recovered the body of the murdered woman, Zainab, from their house in Fatehgarh locality of Harbanspura.

A police official said Butt had divorced his wife some years back because of domestic disputes. She later contracted second marriage.

He said the suspect called Zainab at his house on the pretext of discussing prospects of reconciliation with her on Tuesday. As she reached there, the suspect told her he wanted to remarry her, but she rejected the offer saying she was happily living with her second husband. This led to a heated debate between them, the police official said, adding Butt later allegedly killed his wife, buried her body in the courtyard and fled the scene when his children called the police.

The police official said the suspect had recently got released from the jail and had a criminal record.

The police registered a case against Butt.
