MUZAFFARGARH: A 17-year-old girl who was poisoned allegedly by her parents and brother for her love marriage on Friday died in hospital on Saturday. The police arrested the deceased’s parents while her brother fled.

Anam Ateeq married Wahid Hussain against the will of her family in Bet Uttara a few days back. Her parents convinced her to come back to them for a formal wedding function.

On Friday, her parents Ateeq Ahmad and Bushra and her brother poisoned her and she passed out. At this Wahid alerted the Karam Dad Qureshi police which shifted Anam to hospital and arrested Ateeq and Bushra. She died on Saturday. Regional Police Officer Mohammad Faisal Rana took notice of the case and directed the police to arrest suspects.

Also, the police arrested a politician for making a call to the police as an officer of the sensitive department.

Mian Mohammed Hussain, alias Munna Sheikh, was arrested by Civil Lines police when he called them and introduced himself as an official of the sensitive department. The police traced the caller and learned the Sims used in the call was registered to someone in Balochistan. The police learned Munna Sheikh had many such Sims issued from Balochistan and others remote areas.

Munna Sheikh, a former union council chairman, is a Muzaffargarh resident and has contested several elections for the provincial constituency of the city as an independent candidate. In the general election of 2018, he declared his assets worth Rs4 billion in his nomination papers. Civil Line SHO Malik Khurram Khar said Munna Sheikh would pose himself as an officer. Munna Sheikh, however, alleged the case was fake and he would be out of jail in a day or two on bail.
