RAWALPINDI: Two police officials were injured after being attacked by unidentified motorcycle riders in Sadiqabad area on Thursday.

The injured were identified as ASI Mohammad Nadeem Satti and Constable Mohammad Najeeb; both officials were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and later they were shifted to Holy Family Hospital where they are stated to be in stable condition.

ASI Shahzad Rasool registered a first information report (FIR) under 7-Anti-Terrorism Act and other relevant sections of the law against the suspects saying that he along with two of his subordinates was on night patrolling at Farooq-i-Azam Road when four persons aged between 20 and 25, riding on two motorcycles crossed their police van. One of the riders was a resident of Dhoke Kala Khan.

He said shortly after midnight, the suspects appeared again when Mohammad Nadeem, Mohammad Najeeb, Ameeru ddin and Waqas were tracing robbery suspects in a private car. Nadeem slowed down his vehicle at a speed breaker when the riders opened fire at the officials and escaped towards Ghosia Chowk. Police chased the suspects but they managed to escape.

Nadeem, who was on the driving seat sustained a bullet injury in his head, while Mohammad Najeeb also sustained injuries on his head and back. Senior police officers also visited the hospital to inquire about the health of the injured police officials.

Raids are underway to arrest the suspects.
