PESHAWAR: The district administration seized 17,500 kilogrammes of sugar of the Utility Stores Corporation, which was being packed in plain plastic bags at a warehouse on the GT Road and arrested its owner here on Thursday.

According to an official statement issued by Peshawar’s deputy commissioner Khalid Mehmood here, the local administration raided a warehouse located on the GT Road, Peshawar, and recovered thousands of kilogrammes of sugar of USC. It stated that the sugar was being packed in plain shopping bags for onward supply to the market.

The raiding team headed by additional assistant commissioner Mohammad Azhar Khan arrested the warehouse owner for interrogation and sealed the compound.

The statement said the seized sugar weighed at least 17,500 kilogrammes, which was being packed in simple shopping bags to be sold in the market.

Deputy commissioner Khalid Mehmood, later, ordered the local administration to take action against owner of the USC outlet, which had sold the sugar to the warehouse for making profit.

According to the deputy commissioner, investigation in this regard is in progress. He ordered the local administration to continue raids and curb illegal businesses in their respective areas.
