ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday imposed a Rs0.4 million fine on two petitioners for misrepresentation and presenting a forged letter to substantiate their claims on the National Cricket Ground of Islamabad.
The court also issued them contempt of court notices.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah was hearing a case of the management of the cricket ground against the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
During the course of hearing, it transpired that a petitioner had misrepresented the facts while the other had produced a forged/tampered letter on judicial record. The counsel for the petitioners requested the court to pardon them since they were players and not well versed with the court’s proceedings.
However, Justice Minallah remarked that a sportsman cannot cheat or use unfair means.
He termed it an irony that the players were applying such tactics. The world has set certain standards for sportsmen and they could not even think of dishonesty.
It is also shameful for those who filed the petition, the IHC chief justice remarked.
