ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamilur Rehman on Saturday introduced ‘Cycle Patrol Unit’ in the city to develop friendly relations with residents.

A ceremony was held in this regard at Jinnah Avenue where the IGP was the chief guest. DIG (Operations) Afzaal Ahmed Kousar, SSP (Operations) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer, SSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed, SP (City Zone) Umar Khan and other police officers besides traders, civil society members and notables were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said they had decided to launch ‘Cycle Patrolling’ in the area of Kohsar police station. A 10-member squad of cyclists would work under the direct supervision of ASP (Kohsar) Amna Baig in collaboration with Urban Platform and Cycling Association.

The officials have been trained in this regard and would be provided all facilities so that they perform their duty well.

Speaking on the occasion, the IG said the initiative aimed at approaching the community as police could do nothing without its support.

He said the police could control law and order, crime and other issues only with the support of people.

The IG also launched the Capital Highway Inspection Patrolling Squad, which would comprise 13 motorcyclists equipped with sound system. This squad will guide road-users on wrong parking and other issues related to traffic.
