CHITRAL: The local chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami has demanded of the government to delay the land settlement process in the district by one year beyond 31 March so that the anomalies and mistakes could be rectified before finalisation.

The members of JI district executive council said in a meeting that the process was carried out in violation of the Gazette Notification of 1975, which was the major legal document for discerning the public property from the personal.

The meeting was chaired by MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali. The participants of the meeting said that it would spark a series of unending bickering and disputes among the people if the mistakes were not corrected before the settlement.

They also expressed their concerns over the reported shelving of LPG plant project in Chitral by the federal government. They said that the plant was vital for protection of forests in Chitral as liquefied gas was the main alternative of wood for heating and cooking.

CIVIL DEFENCE DAY: In a function held here on Monday in connection with World Civil Defence Day, the speakers asked the volunteerism to mitigate the magnitude of human sufferings caused by natural and man-made disasters.

Held by the department of civil defence in Government High School Chitral, the function was addressed by Principal Shahid Jalal, Mohammad Ghaus and Shuaib Abdul Hafeez.

They said that 2,300 volunteers were registered and trained by the department. The volunteers proved their mettle during the disasters since 2017. They said that the volunteers rushed to the valley of Golen when glacial lake outburst flood hit it and washed away the access road, cutting it off from the rest of the country. Later on, different articles and instruments of firsthand response to disasters were put on display in the school ground.
