ABOUT 20 years ago, when we were building our house in Karachi’s DHA Phase IV, the building permission was given to the applicants on furnishing an undertaking that they would accept water bills according to the meter, when installed.
Twenty years on, there is no sign of a meter, and the Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) is collecting water charges without providing water.
It is time CBC/DHA started installing water meters, with pressure on the government to complete K-IV and other schemes, for who knows water may actually be available in Karachi in the taps some day.
Even if supply is not improved soon, those influential people and some lucky residents whose houses are near the CBC valves and have access to plenty of water for maintaining lush green lawns, gardens and even indoor swimming pools, with water meters will think twice before wasting water.
