KARACHI: Natalia Zaman became new champion girls under-18 singles champion when she upset top seed Zainab Ali in a thrilling final while Asad Zaman, a highly promising player from Lahore, entered the under-14 singles final after beating Samer Zaman in straight sets at the ninth Essa Lab National Seniors & Juniors Tennis Championships here at the Modern Club.

In soft tennis men’s singles final, Eibad Sarwar beat Muhammad Ali while in the ladies singles final, Hania Naveed beat Eraj Batool. Earlier, on Tuesday Hasheesh Kumar and Mahatir Muhammad both from Sindh Club emerged victorious in the Juniors U-18 singles semifinals, beating Ashar Mir and Saim Danish respectively.

Amir Mazari of Lahore also earned a place in the U-14 singles final when he beat Kashan Tariq in a one-sided match.

The finals and closing ceremony will be held at 4pm today at the Modern Club where Dr. Mariam Farhan Essa has consented to be the chief guest.

Girls U-18 Singles (final): Natalia Zaman beat Zainab Ali 6-1, 6-3

Juniors U-18 Singles (semifinals): Hasheesh Kumar beat Ashar Mir 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; Mahatir Muhammad beat Saim Danish 6-0, 6-4

Boys U-14 (semifinals): Amir Mazar ( Lahore ) beat Kashan Tariq 4-1, 4-2; Asad Zaman ( Lahore ) beat Samer Zaman 4-1, 4-0

Under 10 (final): Shehzer Ali beat Zayed Zaman 5-4, 1-0 rtd.

Under 14 Doubles (semifinal): Amir Mazari (Lahore) and Samer Zaman beat Basim Ali and Ahsan Ahmed 4-2, 4-0

45-Plus Doubles (final):: Muhammad Iltifat & Sher Ahmed beat Zafar Hasan & Javed Iqbal 7-6, 6-2

Soft Tennis Men’s Singles (final): Eibad Sarwar beat Muhammad Ali 3-0

Soft Tennis Ladies Singles (final) Hania Naveed beat Eraj Batool 4-0.
