LAHORE: The police claimed on Friday to have arrested three people for gang rape of a woman in the Kala Shah Kaku area in Sheikhupura district.

The family of the gang rape survivor was returning home after attending a wedding at Dogran Monastery on a rickshaw on Dec 28, 2020, when three gunmen stopped them near Saim Nala Bridge, snatched Rs3,000 in cash and a mobile phone from them and then gang-raped the woman in the bushes.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Sheikhupura District Police Officer (DPO) Ghulam Mubashir Mekan said ten teams were formed to arrest the rapists and more than 300 people were taken into custody for interrogation.

He said the suspects were arrested in Samundri and stolen mobile phones, cash and weapons were recovered from their possession.

The DNA test was conducted and the report revealed the arrested people had raped the woman.

The DPO claimed the suspects were proclaimed offenders in several robbery and burglary cases registered against them in different districts of the province.

Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Ejaz Alam Augustine, Minister for Disaster Management Mian Khalid Mahmood and Women Protection Authority Chairperson Fatima Chadhar also spoke.
