TAXILA: Police have arrested a man for refusing to let health workers to administer polio drops to his children at Lalarukh Colony within the limits of Wah Cantonment police on Friday.

Station House Officer (SHO) Cantonment Yasir Abbas said the case was registered against Mohammad Waqar for creating hurdles in the dispensation of official duty.

“In the morning, when a polio team reached his house, he refused to let them immunise his children and started fighting with them,” he said.

An official, identified as Mohammad Ismail, deployed with the team reported the matter to the police after which a case was registered against him.

Four drug peddlers jailed

The Control of Narcotic Substances (CNS) Court on Friday sentenced four drug peddlers to rigorous imprisonment besides imposing fines on them.

The court found Shahbaz Khan guilty of keeping 1.2 kg charas and 12 gram ice powder within the remits of Jand police in May 2020. Similarly, Wajid Rasheed, Mushtaq Ahmed and Adam Khan were found guilty of keeping charas under which they were booked by Inja and Jand police.

Judge Arshad Iqbal sentenced Shahbaz Khan to five years in prison while Wajid Rasheed, Mushtaq Ahmed and Adam Khan were awarded four years’ rigorous imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 and Rs20,000 on them. In case of non-payment, the convicts would have to undergo an additional one month imprisonment.
