FAISALABAD: A case has been registered against a policeman on charges of receiving bribe from a detained proclaimed offender by threatening him to kill him in an encounter.

As per police, Batala Colony police had arrested a proclaimed offender, Imran, a resident of the People’s Colony No 2, in connection with a murder case (06/17) on Dec 31.

The case had been registered registered on Jan 2, 2017.

Mohammad Akram, the investigation officer, said that during the investigation the PO had revealed that an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ilyas of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Makoana Division, had demanded Rs800,000 from him by threatening him to kill him in a fake encounter.

He said the ASI had received 11,100 Dirham -- Rs 500,000 -- from Ghulam Rasool, an uncle of Imran, in Dubai, who deposited the amount in the account of one Awais Khan, said to be a cousin of the Ilyas.

On Imran’s complaint, a case was registered under section 386 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on Tuesday (Jan 5) with no arrest.

It has not been mentioned in the case that when Imran had been arrested by ASI Ilyas and on what charges.

PROTEST: Dozens of people staged a protest demonstration against the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) on Sattiana Road on Wednesday.

They blocked traffic for hours while wardens also seemed unable to divert the traffic.

They told reporters they had hardly received power supply to their localities in the last two days. They said had contacted Fesco officials requesting them to resolve the issue, but instead of addressing the issue, officials asked told them to go to roads. They said agitation was the only effective way to resolve the power supply issue.

They, however, dispersed peacefully, saying they would again block traffic if the issue was not resolved.
