ATTOCK, Oct 6: The ruling party-backed Khattar group swept the Attock district by winning the top Nazim slot and all six Tehsil nazim seats in the third phase of local body elections on Thursday.

The former district Nazim Maj (retd) Sardar Tahir Sadik Khan retained his seat in one-to-one contest by scoring 704 votes out of total 903 votes while his rival ARD’s candidate Dr Malik Naeem Awan begged only 190 votes.

The election remained one sided as ARD candidate Dr Malik Naeem Awan was not a potential candidate while the third candidate, Mizra Abdul Rehman of Ehtasab group, retired unexpectedly from the race on Wednesday night due to unknown reason.

In the previous LB elections held in 2001 Maj Sadik had scored 725 votes out of total polled votes of 1,449 while his rival panel of Malik Allah Yar Khan of Kunda group had begged 710 votes.

Meanwhile, former Tehsil Nazim Qazi Khalid of Khattar group was elected Tehsil Nazim Attock after defeating his rival Syed Yawar Bukhari of Ehtasab group by 33 votes after tough one-to-one contest. Qazi Khalid scored 86 votes while Yawar Bukhari begged 53 votes out of a total of 140 polled votes.

HAZRO: Former Hazro Tehsil Naib Nazim and Khattar group’s candidate Raza Khan scored 100 votes and was elected Nazim after defeating his rival Muhammad Jameel Khan of the Ehtasab group in one-to-one contest, who got only 66 votes.

FATEHJANG: Zaheer Afzal Arjumand of Khattar group won the Fatehjhang Tehsil nazim slot by scoring 92 votes in a tough contest while his rival Sardar Mukhtar Ahmed Khan of Awam Dost group of PAC’s Chairman Malik Allah Yar Khan, got 78 votes.

HASSANABDAL: Similarly, Shafquat Tahirkhaili of Khattar group was elected Nazim of Hassanabdal by scoring 88 votes against rival ARD’s candidate Asad Zaman who got only 10 votes.

PINDIGHEB: Malik Liaquat Ali Khan of Khattar group was elected Tehsil Nazim of Pindigheb. He got 111 votes and his rival former tehsil Nazim Malik Khurram Ali Khan of Awam Dost group 51.

JAND: Mansar Ameer Khan of Khattar group got 98 votes and won the election of Jand nazim by defeating Sardar Ameer Khan of Awam Dost group, who got 28 votes while a third aspirant Malik Bahadur Khan has scored 20 votes.
