HYDERABAD, Oct 5: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a statement issued here on Tuesday condemned the increase in POL prices.

The president of the chamber, Masood Pervez and senior vice-president, Azizuddin said that the advisory committee of refineries and petrol companies had increased the prices of petrol by 166 per cent, diesel by 203 per cent, kerosene by 184 per cent and high octane by 162 per cent, since July 2001.

They said that the committee had been formed for two years but it was still working. They said that the oil and gas regulatory authority should be given powers to determine the prices of POL.

The chamber president said that developing countries always tried to protect their industries from the effects of petroleum crisis as these prices had an impact on other consumer goods.

SU: The convocation of the University of Sindh for the year 2004 will be held in December 2005.

The controller of examinations has notified all students of the university, including regular and external candidates from colleges, who have passed the examinations by 2004 to submit him an application on a plain paper with a demand draft of Rs1,000 from the Jamshoro branch of Habib Bank. The last date for registration is November 2005.

APPOINTMENT: According to the notification issued by the registrar of the Sindh University on Wednesday, the Sindh governor had appointed Professor (Dr) Sanaullah Bhutto, from the department of comparative religion and Islamic culture, as dean of the faculty of Islamic Studies for three years with immediate effects.

MUET: The Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, has announced that the supplementary examinations of BE and CRP will be held from December 27 at the MUET from 1pm to 4pm.

The last date for submission of the examination forms is November 21.

The students have been asked to submit an attested affidavit on a stamp paper of Rs10 with the exam form that they will not apply for registration to the Pakistan Engineering Council or the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners.
