Kohat police seize big cache of weapons

KOHAT: The police seized a big cache of weapons and related spare parts which were being smuggled in a truck from Parachinar to Peshawar and Punjab via Kohat and arrested three smugglers at Gulshanabad here on Thursday.

The weapons included 75 12-bore repeaters, 10 shotguns and spare parts of various arms.

DSP headquarters Ijaz Khan Abazai told a press conference that they had information from the Intelligence Bureau about an attempt to smuggle a big quantity of weapons via Kohat.

SHO Afzal Awan and his team stopped the truck at Gulshanabad close to the hilly track between Kohat and Darra Adamkhel. Trucks are not allowed to use the Friendship tunnel.

Ijaz Abazai said that the members of inter-provincial gang who had been arrested included Gulzar Ali, Mujahid Hussain and Arshad Hussain, all residents of Parachinar.

He said on search it was found that weapons and spare parts had been hidden in secret cavities of the truck.

The accused were moved to Junglekhel police station and an FIR was registered against them under the Arms Act.
