SHEIKHUPURA: A man allegedly set his elderly parents and younger brother on fire during an argument over a domestic issue in Madar village here on Monday afternoon.

The suspect, Arshad, his wife and his mother got into an argument over a domestic issue in which Arshad favoured his wife. His father, Majid, reprimanded him for using harsh language with his mother, and younger brother, Nasir, admonished him for insulting their parents.

An angry Arshad sprinkled petrol over his mother Saba Bibi, 60, Majid, 70, and Nasir and set them on fire. After locking the three in a room, he escaped with his wife Nadia.

The victims’ hue and cry alerted their neighbours who rescued them from the room. All of them were taken to DHQ hospital and later shifted to Lahore’s Mayo Hospital due to 80 per cent burn injuries.

Saddar police registered a case against Arshad and Nadia, and started an investigation.

District Police Officer Mobasher Maikan took notice of the incident and directed the Saddar station house officer to arrest both suspects as soon as possible.
