GUJRAT: Three restaurants were sealed and a fine of Rs10,000 was imposed on a cloth merchant for violating the standard operation procedures (SOPs) meant to avoid spread of Covid-19 on Sunday.

A joint team comprising Gujrat Assistant Commissioner Suleman Zafar Dhothar, District Health Officer Dr Ayaz Nasir and Gujrat Municipal Corporation Chief Officer Mehmood Iqbal Gondal inspected the implementation of Covid-19 SOPs at a dozen restaurants and fast food outlets in the city. The team sealed two restaurants for entertaining their customers indoors.

A cloth shop along Bhimbher Road was fined Rs10,000 by the team for not implementing the SOPs.

Similarly, in Kharian, AC Khalid Abbas sealed a restaurant near Panjan Kassana along GT Road.

Joint teams of various departments also distributed the awareness pamphlets in the markets, banquet halls and commercial areas on how to move during the pandemic by wearing masks, ensuring social distancing and using hand sanitisers as well as repeatedly washing hands.
