ISLAMABAD: With 642 new cases emerging, 12 people died of Covid-19 in the twin cities - six in Islamabad and as many in Rawalpindi - on Tuesday.

Moreover, two educational institutions in the capital were sealed after detection of positive cases among students and teachers.

Officials of the district administration said the tally of the sealed educational institutions in the capital reached 151.

The Islamabad Model College for Girls G-9/2 and Islamabad Model College for Girls Staff Colony, G-5, were sealed after two cases each were reported from the premises.

The increase in the number of Covid-19 cases continued in the city with 537 more people testing positive. The positive cases on Tuesday were the fourth highest since the outbreak of the disease.

Islamabad reports 537 and Rawalpindi 105 new cases

The highest number of cases on a single day in Islamabad was 771 reported on June 14 followed by 656 on June 7 and 635 on June 15. In the last 24 hours, 6,804 tests were conducted in the capital and the positivity rate remained 7.89pc.

The new cases were reported from 60 localities of the capital. As many as 31 cases were reported from G-9 followed by 29 from G-6, 28 from G-10, 26 from I-8, 23 from Bahria Town, 22 each from I-10, G-11, F-10, 21 from Bhara Kahu, 19 from Tarlai, 18 from Ghouri Town, 15 each from E-11, DHA II, 12 each from Soan Garden, Golra, G-13, 11 from G-7, 10 each from Khanna, 1-9, F-11, nine each from G-8, Chatha Bakhtawar, eight from Banigala, seven each from Taramri, F-8, F-6, six each from Sohan, Media Town, Margalla Town, I-14, Farash Town, D-12, five each from Shaheen Town, PWD, F-7, F-5, B-17, four each from Rawal Town, Pakistan Town, NPF, Jinnah Garden, Jhangi Syedan, H-8, H-9, G-5, three each from Rawat, NDU, H-13, E-9, Nust, Zaraj Housing River Garden, QAU, Naval Anchorage, Korang Town, H-10, G-12, I-11 and Gulberg Green.

Rawalpindi

Besides the six deaths, 105 people tested positive in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. However, 105 patients were discharged from hospitals.

The deceased were aged between 43 and 74 years and were residents of Dhoke Chiraghdin in Marrir Hassan, Bahria Town, Dhoke Ellahi Buksh, Sadiqabad, Satellite Town and Taxila. Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood said 105 patients tested positive in Rawalpindi and 12 of them from outside the district.

He said 1,070 patients are under treatment, including 176 at Holy Family Hospital (HFH), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), Red Crescent Hospital (RCH) and Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU). Of these, 120 patients belonged to Rawalpindi and 56 have come from outside the district.

At present, there are 40 patients at HFH, 23 at BBH, nine at RCH, three at Hearts International Hospital and 46 at the RIU.

As many as 671 people were waiting their results. Total 894 patients choose to be isolated in their homes.

Attock

As many as 14 people tested positive in Attock on Tuesday, raising the tally to 752.

It is the highest number of cases reported in a single day during the second spell of the virus.

Chief executive District Health Authority Dr Jawad Ellah said six of the new cases were from Attock city, five from Hazro and three from Fatehjang.

Dr Ellahi said there are 77 active patients across the district and 70 of them are under home isolation and seven hospitalised.

Taxila

Six people were found infected in Taxila, raising the tally to 670.

Deputy district officer health Dr Sara Qadeer said five of the patients belonged to Wah Cantonment which remained a hotspot for the virus during the previous spell. She said the number of active patients in the area also rose to 66 on Tuesday and all of them were home isolated.
