LAHORE: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has decided to launch an ‘art and culture’ project to beautify several spots of the Punjab capital by displaying works of known painters there.

Under the PHA’s art and culture project works of famous painters would be displayed on billboards along the main highways (at city’s entry, exit points) along with various other artworks, PHA Chairman Eng Yasir Gilani told reporters at a press conference here at the Jilani Park on Tuesday.

Flanked by PHA Director General Jawad Ahmad Qureshi, Additional Director Tariq Mahmood Bukhari, Director Marketing Syeda Ramlla Ali, civil society activists Qudsia Rahim and some famous artists, Mr Gillani said the PHA, in collaboration with Lahore Biennale Foundation, had involved 17 famous Pakistani artists in the project to make it a success.

“The Project would continue from November 24 to December 7,” he added.

He said the areas where paintings’ billboards are being planned included Hussain Chowk, Mini Market, Gulberg, Jail Road, Main Boulevard, Art Gallery, City Mall, Allama Iqbal Road, Garhi Shahu, Bhati Gate, Shaukat Ali Road, Peco Road , Kot Lakhpat, Karim Block Market, Jinnah Hospital, Shaukat Khan, Wapda Town, Khayaban Ferdowsi, Allah Ho Chowk, Ring Road Pend Mor, Ata Bakhsh Road, DHA Road, Gajjumata, College Road, Faisal Town, Main Boulevard DHA, Ghazi Road and Defense Road.

“The project is an awareness campaign for attracting people towards art, which is largely hidden in our environment,” he said.
