KARACHI: A man shot dead his teenage son and critically wounded his wife before shooting himself to death in Shah Latif Town on Tuesday night over a domestic dispute arising after the second marriage of the man, said police.

They added that Rizwan Khan, 50, shot and killed his son, Waqas, 18, and injured his wife, Fatima Bibi, 40, inside their home in Askari Town. Later, he committed suicide.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur quoting a daughter of the deceased said that he (Rizwan) had married another woman. He got another separate home constructed for his second wife. It was stated to be a bone of contention between Rizwan and his first wife.

A quarrel had been going on between the couple since past few days.

It deteriorated on Tuesday night, when Rizwan took out his TT pistol. As his teenage son tried to intervene and save his mother, the father opened fire on both of them. As a result, Waqas died while his mother was critically wounded. Subsequently, Rizwan committed suicide by shooting himself in his head.

Boy electrocuted

An Afghan scavenger was electrocuted in Ittehad Town on Wednesday.

The boy, Samiullah, 12, received electric shock near Abdullah bus terminus and died.

Area SHO Pervez Bhutto said that a kite string had got stuck in the high tension cables. The scavenger was carrying a wire, which hit it, and he suffered an electric shock. Area people tried to save him, but were unsuccessful.

The officer believed that it was an incident and no one has approached the police for pursuing it legally.

Truck overturns on car

A fast moving truck overturned and fell on a car near Hasan Square injuring a young man travelling in the car on Wednesday.

Aziz Bhatti police said that the truck overturned during overtaking at Essa Nagri.

As a result, the man, Salman Sajid, 23, was trapped inside the car which got crushed under the truck.

The police aided by a rescue team removed the heavy vehicle with the help of machinery and recovered the man. The police said that right leg and hand of the man was injured in the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The truck driver escaped while the vehicle was impounded by the police.

The traffic was suspended on one side of the road for a considerable period of time.
