Two women pedestrians were killed and five others injured when a fast-moving truck ran them over on main Mauripur Road on Monday, according to police.

Kalri SHO Zulfiqar Ali Bajwa said seven women, working as domestic workers, tried to cross the busy road when a loading truck hit them.

They suffered critical injuries and were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors pronounced Aneeta Ajmal, 35, and Sughra, 30, dead.

Sumbal Hind, 30, Gor Bai, 35, Sona Loon, 30, Tamai, 25, and Hamai Patel were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The area SHO regretted that there were four pedestrian bridges on Mauripur Road but pedestrians did not use it.

Besides, there used to be an iron fence to prevent people crossing the road, but it had been removed by people.

He said the driver fled due to fear and the company told the police they would hand him over to them later.
