KARACHI: A young man was stabbed to death and two others were injured in Korangi on Monday, police said.

They added that a clash took place between two groups over a petty feud in a street in Sector-32-C. As a result, Mohammed Khan, 33, Daulat Khan, 35, and Tharo Khan, 35, were stabbed. Later, Mohammad Khan succumbed to his injuries.

Area SHO Shahzada Saleem said the incident appeared to be an outcome of a scuffle between children, which led to the clash between their elders.

Two women die in Mauripur accident

Two women pedestrians were killed and five others injured when a fast-moving truck ran them over on main Mauripur Road on Monday, according to police.

Kalri SHO Zulfiqar Ali Bajwa said seven women, working as domestic workers, tried to cross the busy road when a loading truck hit them.

They suffered critical injuries and were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors pronounced Aneeta Ajmal, 35, and Sughra, 30, dead.

Sumbal Hind, 30, Gor Bai, 35, Sona Loon, 30, Tamai, 25, and Hamai Patel were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The driver managed to escape leaving behind the vehicle, which was impounded by the police.

The area SHO regretted that there were four pedestrian bridges on Mauripur Road but pedestrians did not use it.

Besides, there used to be an iron fence to prevent people crossing the road, but it had been removed by people.

He said the driver fled due to fear and the company told the police they would hand him over to them later.

Ban on water tankers

Taking notice of growing traffic accidents caused by water tankers, DIG-Traffic Javed Mahar on Monday imposed a ban on the movement of the heavy vehicles.

The DIG stated in a letter that the ban was imposed on the movement of tankers carrying over 5,000 gallons of water.

He directed the officers concerned to submit a daily report about implementation of the decision.
