FAISALABAD: Renowned qawwal Sher Miandad and his son were shot at and injured by robbers at Chak 199-RB, Gatwala, in the wee hours of Thursday.

Ubaid Ali, the son of Miandad, told police that his father, he and two other persons were going back to Pakpattan after performing at the shrine of Mundranwali Sarkar when Miandad asked the driver to stop the car to respond to the call of nature. The driver stopped the car near Officers Colony and Miandad came out of it.

Meanwhile, two robbers riding on a motorcycle appeared there. Miandad offered them resistance and the robbers opened fire on him. A bullet hit Miandad in the chest. The robbers fired at Ubaid also and injured him when he tried to rescue his father.

The unidentified suspects escaped with a bag containing Rs200,000. The condition of Miandad and Ubaid was stated to be out of danger. They are getting treatment at Civil Hospital, Faisalabad. Police have registered a case.
