SHANGLA: A policeman working in the department’s information wing was martyred by unidentified assailants near his house in Karin Dara area of Martung tehsil here on Saturday night.

Umar Rehman, a police spokesman, said Hafiz Mohammad was coming home when unidentified assailants opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

He said police and intelligence agencies had started a search operation to trace the killers.

He said an FIR had been lodged in the Martung police station under 7-ATA.

The funeral prayers of the martyred constable were attended by the DPO, the army officers and political leaders.

Meanwhile, a man drowned in the Indus River in Dandai area of Bisham on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 sources said the man along with two children had gone to the Indus River for picnic. They said one of his sons fell into the river, and to save him, the man jumped into the water followed by his other son.

The divers of 1122 recovered the two children alive, but their father was missing.
