Karachi to have another sports complex very soon: Imtiaz Ali Shah

KARACHI: The game of hockey received a major boost on Thursday when the Sindh government announced to build another hockey sports complex in Karachi after the existing KHA Complex which is situated at NIPA. Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Department Sindh, said in an announcement that in the next five years, the youth of Karachi would be presented with the gift of another KHA Multiple Sports Complex which will be built on six acres of land in North Nazimabad.

According to details, the Secretary Sports made the announcement on the occasion of NAB’s visit to the KHA ground in District West in front of a private hospital in North Nazimabad. On this occasion, Chairman KHA Gulfraz Ahmed Khan, KHA Legal Adviser Advocate Supreme Court Amir Aziz Khan, Secretary KHA Haider Hussain, well known sports organiser Ghulam Muhammad, Patron KHA Women’s Wing Asma Ali Shah, Senior Vice President KHA Dr. SA Majid, Executive Board Member Riazuddin, KHA Youth hockey team coach Imtiaz ul Hassan and others were also present.

Imtiaz Ali Shah said that after the government gave KHA Sports Complex in Gulshan-e-Iqbal to the youth of Shehr-e-Quaid, the six-acre ground in North Nazimabad will also be equipped with modern facilities.

“The sports complex will have hockey and football as well as other modern facilities including a swimming pool,” he said, adding that the construction of the sports complex would be completed within the next five years.

Haider Hussain, Secretary, Karachi Hockey Association, thanked, Abdul Ghani Soomro, Administrative Judge, NAB Sindh for ordering strong action against land mafia which had been illegally grabbing hockey ground in District West.

In a statement, Haider said that Sindh Sports Department has always played a major role in providing modern sports facilities to the youth of Karachi. He said that Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh has also always supported the national game of hockey and a clear example of that is the impressive KHA Sports Complex.
