KARACHI: Talented Ashar Mir defeated Muhammad Ali 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in a match that lasted two and a half hours in the second round of the men’s singles event of the second Afeef Trophy Sindh ranking tennis championships here on Wednesday.

In another exciting match, Uzair Katchi showed his class when he beat Asif Bachani of Hyderabad 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, Bilal Khan, Sheeraz Bhand, Rayyan Jawad and Saad Salim also beat their respective rivals in the men’s singles event.

In the U-11 singles quarter-finals, Laraib Shamsi tamed Nibras Malik 5-3, 5-4 (4) after a close contest. In the U-15 singles, Ibrahim Noman beat Abdul Rehman while in U-13 singles Muhammad Usman faced stiff resistance from Shehzar Ali before winning the match in style.

Men’s Doubles (first round): Noor-e-Mustafa and Kamran Iqbal beat Amir Mumtaz and Syed Qutub 9-7

Under-15 Doubles (first round): Abdul Nafey & Muhammad Usman beat Kamil Sayeed & Inaya Sayeed 8-2.
