SWABI: The price of 20kg wheat flour bag has registered an increase of Rs100 during last one week in the district.

The consumers said that the 20kg bag of flour, which was available in the local market at Rs800 about three months ago, had now been selling at Rs1,300.

“Rs500 increase in the price of 20kg flour bag in just three months has caused a great financial impact on the consumers, especially the poor people,” said Diyar Khan of Swabi city.

Rahim Khan of Zaida city said they did not know when the prices of essential commodities would be stabilised.

The people said the rising prices of flour and other food commodities had put a tremendous pressure on them and they did not know how to meet the basic needs of their families.

When asked, the traders said they were not responsible for the increase in flour price because it had been supplied to them by the flour mills.

Laiq Khan, president of district Anjuman-i-Dokandaran, said the main dealers and mills owners were responsible for the rising flour prices.
