KARACHI: The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) has cancelled this year’s world events that were scheduled to take place at Doha in November over the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

A decision in this regard was taken at the IBSF executive zoom meeting held on Saturday.

“The IBSF discussed the impact Covid-19 pandemic is having on sports travel and life in general, the world governing body of game said in a official statement.

It said the IBSF has a duty to take care of the billiards and snooker fraternity.

“All IBSF events of 2020 have been cancelled and will not rescheduled,” it further stated.

The IBSF plans to resume activities in middle of February next year.

Plans are also afoot to stage few world events in Doha February next during the interim period with the support of Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation.

The IBSF has also deferred the annual general meeting (AGM) in the larger interest of member countries and is likely o convene it in February on the sidelines of one of the world events.

It is pertinent to mention that the IBSF was supposed to organise the IBSF 15-Reds men’s, women’s and master’s snooker championships, IBSF 6-Reds and Team Events for men’s and women’s, IBSF under-21 men’s and women’s and U-18 men’s tournaments.

The IBSF quadrennial elections were also scheduled to take place in November, which too, has been deferred.
