GUJRANWALA, Sept 16: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy leaders claimed on Friday that its nominated candidates for district and town nazims would sweep the election in Gujranwala if the ruling PML avoided rigging.

Speaking at a meeting in favour of the ARD nominee for Qila Deedar Singh town nazim slot, PML-N Punjab chief organizer Ghulam Dastagir Khan claimed that even the government’s own ministers and parliamentarians were protesting against rigging in the first and second phases of the local election.

The resignation tendered by the provincial sports minister bore testimony to the fact, he said.

PPP Divisional Coordinator Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warriach, an MNA, and ARD candidate for Gujranwala district nazim Chaudhry Abdullah Virk criticized the government and the ruling party for “forcing elected representatives to switch their loyalties.”

They appealed to the public to vote for the ARD nominees.

ARD Qila Deedar Singh town nazim nominee Haji Gauhar Zaman (former district naib nazim) and MPAs Chaudhry Zahid Pervez, Ashraf Kamboh, Chaudhry Shabbir Ahmad and former PML-N MNA Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk also spoke.

SIALKOT JAIL CASE: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 continued hearing of the Sialkot jail incident on Friday.

The counsel for former superintendent Sikandar Hayat withdrew their plea for the summons of former Sialkot district and sessions judge Chaudhry Zafar Husain.

Judge Mujahid Mustaqim adjourned the case till Sept 22.
